Founded in 2006 by Ben Gorham, Byredo began after Gorham became enamoured with scent after travelling to his mother’s hometown in India. The companies approach to scent comes with high quality raw ingredients and simple compositions, resulting in beautifully refined scents that are unlike others on the market.
Mister Marvelous Eau De Parfum is a wonderful mix of Black Amber and White Cedarwood with light top notes of Mandarin and Neroli Flower.
D.S. & DURGA
D.S. & Durga is a Brooklyn based perfumer founded by David Seth Moltz and Kavi Moltz that offer small batch unique fragrances created in houses. They say 'We began by turning things we loved into scents. At first we handmade scented stories of cowboys, open terrain, Russian novel characters, folksongs, etc., and packed them into hand-stamped boxes in our Bushwick apartment’ - today the brand has evolved into signature scents and beautiful candles.
Our top picks is ‘Freetrapper’, described as harkening back to early America, it has an Amberwoof and Santal base distilled with crisp Bergamot and Bitter Orange.
MAISON FRANCIS KURKDJIAN PARIS
Founder Francis Kurkdjian is behind some of the world best known fragrances for global brands including Dior and YSL, and one of the first to open a bespoke fragrance atelier. His goal since age 15 of becoming a perfumer has led to him creating some of the most original scents. 'Maison Francis Kurkdjian collection is sketched like a fragrance wardrobe, with myriad of facets of emotions’.
Our pick for this season is Aqua Universalis Forte, which is the brands signature unisex scent. Notes of white lily, Egyptian jasmine and rose and matched with lemon, bergamot and musk for a lingering scent.
The powerhouse that is Mr Tom Ford launched his beauty line in 2006 with Black Orchid and the world has basically never looked back - now with six signature fragrances for both men and women alongside his private blend collection. Ford said in an interview 'like music or food, scent is a very direct sensory stimulant. It provokes the senses, it brings up emotion and memory and feeling. It doesn’t mean I have to buy an expensive perfume; it just means I would have to smell flowers, smell the landscape. So fragrance is more than an accessory, absolutely, to me. In many ways, it is the main event—certainly one of my biggest passions as a creative person’
For a sensual scent that won’t break the bank, we’re turning to Noir.
Founded in New York, 2006 by Eddie Roschi and Fabrice Penot, Le Labo produces 15 unique fragrances and 10 home scents. Based on their idea that there are too ‘too many bottles of perfume and not enough soulful fragrances’, there aim remains to create ‘fine perfumery’. A visit to one of their stores and you’ll see what we mean. Beautifully designed like a mix between a traditional apothecary and chic perfumers, you can have your name printed on the bottle and walk away with a noticeably destiny scent.
