The new mood for spring 17 beauty

from acid bright cheekbones to fresh dewy faces

From the token dewy face to bold brights, SS17’s beauty looks ranged from the natural to all-out shocking. Whilst Kenzo and Chanel were showcasing acid brights around the temples and cheeks, including a non apologetic statement lip, Isabel Marant and Proenza Schouler brought us back to the classic with a non-makeup, makeup look meaning clean skin and groomed brows were the order of the day.

As we are slowly clawing our way out of winter and into what will hopefully be a beautiful spring (which will probably start in August this year in London) we’re looking to the runways for inspiration and the looks we should be sporting this spring/summer.

If you’re not one to shy away from a beauty trend then following in the footsteps of Fendi and Kenzo are the way forward this spring. A nude glitter lip a la Fendi by way of Pat McGrath or glitter lids seen at Marc Jacobs are the way to make a statement in the new year - to keep things wearable, shun the graphic cat eye and go for dewy skin and long lashes for a youthful approach. For an update on a bare face, take out your brightest pigment and wash it all over the highest points of the cheeks and the temples.

This season lipstick was not only just to line the most perfect of pouts but to flush the cheeks of the models. Erdem applied a Nar’s shade to the high points of the cheeks rather than the apples for a more grown up approach to blushing.

If you have a ride or die highlighter that no lipstick is going to convince you to change then take it right back to the Eighties with a bold lip. Perfect the shape with a liner, then apply with a brush for maximum packed colour but don’t stop there - add a thick coat of clear gloss atop for that striking editorial pout.

Whilst the bare-face beauty approach isn’t exactly revolutionary, there is always something so beautifully refreshing about taking it back to the basics and focusing on applying a few products beautifully rather than spending hours on the whole contour/highlight scenario. Take your beauty Noht’s from Marni and Vera Wang by simple covering blemished with minimal concealer and applying a dewy glow to a look that says ‘i slept for 24 hours and am perfectly put together’. With Victoria Beckham bringing her capsule collection for Estee Lauder back in stores this March, this means her sell out product the Morning Aura, which both she and the beauty world raved about (and in turn sold out), the ideal product to add a refreshed glow to the high points of the face.
