Jigsaw Spring/Summer 17 Preview

Noht's on the new season from Jigsaw

Ahead of its arrival in stores next spring, we previewed the key pieces from the spring/summer 17 collection at Jigsaw, in their new flagship on Regent Street.

This season the collection focused around the idea of Chaos and with Jigsaw never being one to shy away from innovative techniques (or prints for that matter), the chain saw a collaboration with artist Marcus James. Known for his modern pieces, the two came together to combine Marcus' riotous line and Jigsaws refined style, resulting in beautifully simple garments advanced into fluid wearable art pieces.

With the focus of the prints created for the brand based around the butterfly effect, the artwork was scribed on walls, hand painted by Marcus onto bags at the presentation and elegantly embroidered in blue thread onto heavy knits, eventuating in pieces that could be worn by a woman of any age.

The menswear collection showed a directional turn for Jigsaw, straying away from more classic pieces we saw last season, this time around they've experimented with naturally dyed denims and organic tones, taking direct inspiration from workwear, our favourite pieces are the white denim jumpsuit and stone coloured patchwork jeans.

Accessories were approached from a number of different angles with high shine metallics in minimal shapes shown alongside the printed dresses; and summer sandals and clutches made from striped hammock material (Jigsaw collaborated with a traditional hammock manufacturer). The format of their accessories remained similar to the Jigsaw aesthetic whilst simply updating it to this seasons colour ways.

Parallel to the seasons statement pieces that referenced the chaos theory, sat the Golden Ratio collection (order and chaos were the main contrasting themes) which saw the retailer focus on the perfect proportions, in their words 'clean lines, straight hems, v-necklines, where every cuff, collar and sleeve has been cut to precision'.

Until this collection hits stores in the spring, we've chosen some of the key pieces from Jigsaw this season - our picks are the heavy wool coats, the half moon cross-bodies (a key shape for the season) and the luxe materials that Jigsaw do brilliantly (see the aviator jacket).
